Vito
Bruno was born in Bari, Puglia, south
Italy, on the 6th of January 1982.
From
a family of painters he inherited the
passion for the visual arts from his
grandfather Michele Girardi, artist
belonging to the art movement of the
Barbizon School.
In
between 1996 and 2001 he attended the
Liceo Scientifico Statale “R.Canudo”,
Gioia del Colle (Italy), a lycee specializing
in scientific subjects.
During
his studies though, he cultivated more
interest in humanistic subjects such
as Art, Italian and English literature,
and Latin.
In
1997 he attends a Comics Workshop taught
by Jacopo Fo (son of Nobel Prize in
Literature 1997, Dario Fo) and Vauro
(Vauro Senesi, journalist and cartoonist
for “La Repubblica”, “Il Manifesto”,
“L’Espresso”).
In
2001 he approaches theatre through a
workshop organised by the theatre Kismet
OperA, Bari, Italy, called “Asilo delle
Arti Sceniche”, based on theoretic and
practical study of drama, directing
and acting, taught by Carlo Bruni and
Lello Tedeschi.
During
this time he works as an actor in theatre,
short and feature films.
It
is in 2002 that he discovers cinema
playing Giovanni, a young guy troubled
by family problems, in the feature film
“La Casa delle Donne” by director Mimmo
Mongelli.
This
significant experience leads him to
explore the process of movie making
and discover the possibilities and responsibility
of cinematic direction.
He
writes and directs few short films in
Italy until he decides, in 2005, to
move to England to study film directing
and the Northern Film School of Leeds.
He
has written and directed his first school
project “Breaking the Silence”, special
mention of the jury “Corto Dorico 2007”
Ancona, Italy, first prize-best short
film in the category suspense “Screentest
2008”, Bristol, UK and official competition
“Euroshorts 2007” Warsaw, Poland.
As
writer and director he made music videos,
short films, and a commercial. Furthermore
he has gained additional experience
working for several productions as first
assistant director and in the camera
department.
At
the moment he is completing the master
course “MA in Film and Moving Image
Productions” at The Northern Film School
working on the production of his graduation
film “Prey and Escape”.
