Oscar
Idin was born in the southern small
town of Lund, Sweden in 1981.
He
went to the University of his home town
taking film studies. Films from the
neorealist Italian cinema and american
films from the 60s and 70s inspired
him to think about becoming a filmmaker.
He
kept his interest in documentary filmmaking
as he since a few years back has been
working closely with documentary filmmakers
collective in Sweden. Lately he has
become more drawn towards fiction and
cinematography and he developed this
interest by working as a camera trainee
on a cinema feature and a television
drama.
With
this past experience he was quickly
accepted to the Northern Film School
in Leeds, England. During the two years
as Director of Photography he has shot
several fiction shorts and commercials
and assisted and worked as gaffer on
numerous projects for his colleagues.
At
the moment he is working on the production
of “Prey and Escape”, graduation film
for his last MA course year at The Northern
Film School of Leeds.
“My
first big role models in cinematography
were Vilmos Zsigmond and his companion
László Kovács.
Watching Zsigmonds "the Deer Hunter"
from 1978 made me realise that it was
the visuals and the motion of cinema
that intrigued me the most. I am also
much inspired by modern cinematographers
such as Roger Deakins, Rodrigo Prieto
and Harris Savides”.
